- Caught over 1,800 major league games
- Batted .281 for career; batted over .300 four times
- Selected to AL all-star team eight times
- Coached for Washington from 1947–1949
- Coached for Detroit from 1950–1953 before working for Detroit as scout, general manger, vice president, and consultant until his death in 1995
