- Coached University of North Carolina women’s soccer team to 17 NCAA championships, the last in 2005
- Played soccer at UNC and was named All-ACC three times
- Coached men’s soccer at UNC from 1976–1988, leading the Tar Heels to the 1987 Final Four
- Named head coach of women’s team in 1979
- Under his watch, UNC women won 9 consecutive NCAA titles, 1986–1994
