- Started in the backfield, 1941–1944
- Named first-team all-SC in 1942-1944
- Honored as All-American in 1944
- Rushed for 1,775 yards and passed for 838 yards in college career
- Scored four touchdowns in 1942 game against NC State
- Led Duke to a dramatic 29-26 comeback victory over University of Alabama in 1945 Sugar Bowl
- On the diamond, hit .407 as a Duke outfielder
- After leaving Duke, served in the marines, played semi pro football in Charlotte, and officiated high school and college football games
