- Named first-team AP All-American in 1933, the first such honor awarded to a North Carolina collegian
- Played for Chicago Bears in 1935
- Too small for regular play in interior line, gave up pro aspirations after one year
- Member of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame
- Had small roles in several movies before becoming deputy commissioner of Florida Motor Vehicles Division
- Died in 1974 at the age of 62
