- Graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1946
- Promising swimming career ended by bout of tuberculosis
- Head swimming coach at UNC from 1944–1946
- Swimming coach at NC State from 1946-1969
- Brought State’s program to national prominence
- Overall dual-meet record at State of 189-29, including a 34-meet winning streak in the 1950s
- Eleven team SC and ACC titles
- Coached 1954, 1956, and 1962 national AAU championship teams
- Served as athletic director at State from 1969–1986
- Casey Aquatic Center named in his honor
- Died in 1992
