- Led the school to two of its best seasons
- Pitched for Team USA in the 1984 Olympic games
- Played in the major leagues from 1986 through 1995, ending with a record 614 strike outs
- After retiring, settled in Asheboro and opened the North Carolina Baseball Academy in Greensboro
