- Led the Florida Marlins to the 2003 World Series title at the age of 74
- Won more than 1,000 games in both the minors and the majors
- Named the NL Manager of the Year in 1999 and 2003
- Retired as a manager in 2011 during his second stint with the Marlins
- Became known as “Trader Jack” while working in the Padres front office in the 1980s
