- Attended Charlotte High School and Fishburne Military School
- Versatile college athlete who starred in football, basketball, and baseball at University of North Carolina in the 1920s
- The 5 ft. 7 in. tall athlete played quarterback, guard, and shortstop in the respective sports
- Named All-SC in basketball in 1922 and 1924
- Led UNC to 26-0 record and 1924 mythical national championship, as voted by Helms Athletic Foundation
- Quarterbacked UNC football team to 9-1 mark in 1922
- Batted over .300 in baseball career and led UNC to a 19-2 mark in 1922
- Coached 1925 UNC basketball team to an 18-5 record while attending medical school full-time
- Became urologist in Charlotte
- Died in 1977
