- He was a second-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Rams in 1987. Although he played little in his first two pro years,
- Signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting in 62 of 64 games over four years for Chuck Noll and then Bill Cowher.
- A member of the Winston-Salem State Hall of Fame and the CIAA Hall of Fame, and also was an HBCU Living Legends honoree.
- His philanthropy in his post-football career has benefited several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
