  • Became de facto head coach in 1947 when Bunn Hearn suffered a stroke
  • Officially succeeded Hearn in 1957
  • Compiled a record of 540-358-9
  • Won SC title in 1949 and ACC titles in 1960, 1964, 1966, and 1969 
  • Retired in 1977 
  • President of the American Association of College Baseball Coaches in 1961
  • Inducted into the College Coaches Hall of Fame in 1977
