  • Led Duke to a dramatic 29-26 comeback victory over University of Alabama in 1945 Sugar Bowl
  • On the diamond, hit .407 as a Duke outfielder
  • After leaving Duke, served in the marines, played semi pro football in Charlotte, and officiated high school and college football games
