- Native of Gibsonville, NC
- One of three sisters (Kay and Deborah) who made their careers in college athletics
- Played basketball at Elon College, then transferred to NC State University
- During her senior year, she was the first women’s basketball player at State to be named to the All-America team
- Began coaching in 1978 and served as assistant coach to the 1988 women’s Olympic team
