- Coached Winston-Salem R. J. Reynolds to 1958 and 1964 state titles
- Compiled a high school record of 138-38-11
- Coached Elon College from 1967–1976
- Won six Carolinas Conferences titles
- 1973 Elon team finished second in NAIA championships, while 1974 and 1976 teams made NAIA semifinals
- Finished at Elon with a record of 74-32-2
- Served as assistant coach at Duke in 1977 before becoming head coach from 1978–1982
- 1981 and 1982 teams posted school’s first consecutive winning seasons in two decades
- Posted a record of 16-27-1 at Duke
