- Two stops at Florida bracketed tenure at State from 1967–1980
- State won 1974 NCAA title in Greensboro with team widely regarded as best in ACC history
- State went 57-1 in 1973 and 1974
- Won 1970, 1973 and 1974 ACC titles
- Compiled a record of 266-127 at State
- Named ACC Coach of the Year 1970, 1973 and 1974
- Honored as National Coach of the Year in 1974
- Coached Florida to its first NCAA appearance in 1987
- Finished collegiate coaching career with a record of 627-395
- Coached 1980 British National Olympic team
- Fiery coach, dubbed Stormin’ Norman
- Died on December 9, 2003
