- Graduate of East Carolina, 1964
- Coached at High Point’s Allen Jay High School and Gibsonville High School
- Coached at Elon College from 1971–1975, compiling a record of 57-19
- Head women’s coach at NC State from 1975–2009
- Earned ACC titles in 1980, 1985, 1987, 1991 and made 15 appearances in NCAA Tournament
- Team advanced to the 1998 Final Four
- Compiled a 532-223 record at State through 2000
- Overall mark of 589-242 is fifth on all-time win list for college women coaches
- Extensive international experience as head coach of 1988 U.S. women’s basketball team and assistant coach of 1984 team, both of which won Olympic gold medals
- Coached U.S. teams in Goodwill, Pan-American, and World University Games and in World Championships
- Member of the Women’s Sports Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame
- Died in 2009
