- Born in Windsor, NC, 1944
- Lineman at Elizabeth City State
- Worked hard in weight room at college and developed into potent defensive end
- Named All-CIAA in 1963 and 1964
- Selected in 11th round of 1965 NFL draft by Dallas Cowboys and surprised observers by making team
- Became starter at defensive tackle for Dallas’s famous “doomsday defense”
- Started for Dallas in Super Bowls V, VI, X, and XII
- On roster for Super Bowl XIII but did not play because of an injury that forced retirement after the 1978 season
- Played in 23 NFL playoff games
