  • Three-year starter for the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, 1932–1934.
  • Named the school’s first football All-American in 1934
  • Played Guard and linebacker at 5 ft. 11 in., 185 lb. 
  • Known for ferocious hitting and suffered an injury that ended pro ambitions
  • Coached at Washington and Lee before returning to UNC as an assistant coach
  • Named the Tarheels head coach in 1953 and compiled a mark of 11-18-1 in three seasons
  • Died in Chapel Hill in 1997
