- Named the school’s first football All-American in 1934
- Played Guard and linebacker at 5 ft. 11 in., 185 lb.
- Known for ferocious hitting and suffered an injury that ended pro ambitions
- Coached at Washington and Lee before returning to UNC as an assistant coach
- Named the Tarheels head coach in 1953 and compiled a mark of 11-18-1 in three seasons
- Died in Chapel Hill in 1997
