- Standout lineman at North Carolina Central, playing both offensive and defensive line
- Named All-CIAA in 1967, 1968, and 1969
- Honored as NAIA all-American in 1968 and 1969
- Played one season for Houston Oilers and 14 seasons for San Diego Chargers as offensive guard, retiring after 1984 season
- Named Chargers Lineman of the Year seven times
- Played on three Pro Bowl squads
