- Traded to Cincinnati in 1953
- Sore arm led to retirement after the 1954 season
- Finished with a major league record of 32-25 with 11 saves
- Minor league coach and manager and major league coach before becoming manager of San Francisco Giants in 1969
- Managed Giants to 90-72 mark and second-place finish in 1969 NL West race
- Fired during 1970 season after 19-25 start
- Managed Atlanta from 1974–1975 and New York Yankees in 1982
