  • Outstanding defensive second baseman; made big leagues in 1934 with St. Louis Cardinals
  • Traded to New York Giants in 1936
  • Starting second baseman for Giants through 1941 season, although he missed 1938 season because of illness
  • Spent 1942–1945 in U.S. Army Air Corps
  • Played for Pittsburgh in 1946 before retiring
  • Batted .266 for career with 883 hits in 924 games
  • Played in three World Series — 1934 with St. Louis and 1936 and 1937 with New York
  • Batted .135 in 12 World Series games
  • Died in 1993
